Chapungu FC boss dies in Gweru plane crash

Chapungu FC Secretary-General Mkhululi Dube was among the people who died in a military jet crash on Tuesday.

The incident happened at 2 pm near the railway interchange at Dabuka on the outskirts of Gweru after the plane had taken off from the Josiah Tungamirai Air Force Base (formerly known as Thornhill Air Base).

Dube, who was the flight instructor, died on the scene along with a female trainee, Silungile Sweswe.

Chapungu, a Division One club, is owned by the Air Force of Zimbabwe.

“We are saddened to learn of the untimely passing of Chapungu FC Secretary-General, Squadron Leader Mkhululi Dube,” the PSL said in a condolence message on Wednesday.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, Chapungu FC and the football family during this difficult time. May his soul rest in peace.”
