Mapeza begins second term at FC Platinum with victory

FC Platinum secured an important 2-1 away victory against Costa do Sol in the Champions League preliminary round fixture played in Maputo, Mozambique on Saturday.

The match marked the beginning of coach Norman Mapeza’s second spell at the club. The gaffer was re-appointed the head coach of the team following the sacking of Pieter de Jongh last week.

Ralph Kawondera, who arrived at the Platinum Boys this year, scored the solitary goal in the encounter with a header in the 67th minute.

Perfect Chikwende could have made it two a few moments later but his strike was ruled out for an offside.

The home side equalised with six minutes to play but the parity didn’t stand long as Elias Makuri restored the lead for FC Platinum two minutes later.

The Zimbabwe champions will now take 2-1 advantage into the return fixture at home next week.
