KV Mechelen coach speaks on Bill Antonio starting in first XI

KV Mechelen coach Besnik Hasi has spoken on Bill Antonio’s return to action after recovering from a a long term knee injury.

Antonio ruptured his ACL during a Belgian Pro League game in March last year.

After months of rehabilitation, the 22-year-old returned to action in early January, playing in a behind closed doors practice match against Beveren.

He went on to feature in two Belgian Pro League games, with the latest appearance coming last weekend in the match against Anderlecht as a half time substitute.

Speaking to Nieuwsblad.be website, Hasi confirmed that the Warriors international is now ready to start in the first XI against Oud-Heverlee Leuven on Friday but is still a bit far to play the entire game.

The gaffer said: “Bill is evolving step by step. From 25 minutes as a substitute in the practice match against Beveren and Genk to half a match against Anderlecht.

“Can he start yet? We will consider that, but in any case he should be able to play sixty to seventy minutes now. We are happy that Bill is back. The team benefits from his intensity and speed.”
