Farai Jere speaks on Lloyd Chitembwe’s future at CAPS United

CAPS United president Farai Jere has affirmed that head coach Lloyd Chitembwe will not depart the club anytime soon despite a poor run of form.

The Green Machine has endured a disastrous start to the campaign and is currently in 17th position with four points after Matchday 6.

Calls for Chitembwe’s dismissal began after a loss to Ngezi Platinum Stars, and the pressure intensified on Sunday when his side lost again, 1-0, to rivals Highlanders.

The coach, who won the championship with the Harare giants in 2016, admitted the team’s struggles and took responsibility for the poor run after the game in Bulawayo.

Speaking at the team’s training session on Tuesday, as cited by NewsDay, Jere commented on Chitembwe’s future:

“Lloyd Chitembwe is not going anywhere. His achievements are there for all to see, so we need that experience. We have walked that road before [of firing coaches], and we know the results…

“For the record, Lloyd Chitembwe has a three-year contract that is expiring, and my plan is to extend his contract by another three years.”

Jere also revealed that they are looking to appoint a new assistant coach instead:

“We have an assistant coach who is coming. Yesterday, I had an interview with him. He is our son who has done very well wherever he has been. I don’t want to give details.

“In the next two weeks, he will join us, and I can tell you the fans will be happy because he did very well for the club during his time. He also won the championship. He is now a CAF A-qualified coach and has won a championship as a head coach, but he is not currently in Zimbabwe.”
