AmaZulu FC striker Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya says he is looking forward to a positive season with Usuthu after marking his return to full fitness with the winning goal in the club’s 2026/27 Betway Premiership opener.
The former FC Platinum star, Ngwenya struck in the 59th minute at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in Durban, converting after Mosa Lebusa fouled Athini Maqokolo inside the box.
“All I can say is that I’m happy to be at AmaZulu and I’m looking forward to a positive season,” Ngwenya told Soccer24
The comments come almost a year after the Zimbabwe international’s progress was interrupted by injury.
Ngwenya sustained an ankle injury during AmaZulu’s Carling Black Label Cup match against Magesi FC just before the October international break, a setback that forced him out of the Warriors squad ahead of their 2026 World Cup qualifier against Lesotho, with coach Michael Nees turning to Marumo Gallants forward Daniel Msendami as his direct replacement.
At the time, the club said Ngwenya had begun light training and physiotherapy under the supervision of AmaZulu’s medical staff, with the team targeting a return to full fitness within three weeks. Speaking to Soccer24 during his rehabilitation, Ngwenya said the recovery process was going well as he continued working with the club’s medical team.
Despite the setback, Ngwenya returned to finish the 2025/26 season as AmaZulu’s talisman. Ngwenya scored eight goals in 16 appearances across all competitions, including six goals and one assist in the Premiership and was crowned the club’s Golden Boot winner at AmaZulu’s season-ending awards.
