ZPSL: Its good bye to the relagated as we welcome the new boys

The curtain finally came down on the 2015 Castle Lager Premeirship action.

It was yet another successful run by the PSL led by Kenny Ndebele under the harsh economic conditions. We say congratulations to the PSL and Castle Lager for holding such a proffesional but exciting event – save for the few skirmishes here and there.

This time around no helicopter was needed to present the league trophy as Chicken Inn were ceremoniously awarded the trophy and medals after having sealed the title last week.

Chicken Inn crowned champs

Yes – It is Chicken Inn who scooped the prestigious title this time around ending Dynamos’ 4 year immortality.

Not many gave the gamecocks a chance before the league as they quietly went about their business in pre season. To their credit they managed to mantain the bulk of their players from the previous season led by charismatic talented defendive link man Danny ‘Deco’ Phiri.

An unknown Edmore Chirambadare gave Chicken Inn a fine run in the early stages of the league scoring some crucial goals that almost landed him the golden boot. He however lost steam as the league progressed only to be outmuscled by Highlanders’ Knox Mutizwa.

Again its congratulations to Chicken Inn and their coach Joey Antipas.

Sadly though, Chicken Inn have indicated that they wont represent Zimbabwe at CAF Champions League owing to lack of finances. Even much disappointly no team in the country is willing to take over the button for the Champions League.

Non the less, the Premier league waves goodbye to four teams as we welcome new four teams.

Interestingly 2015 is the last season were we get to see 4 teams being relageted as the PSL will starting from next season adopt a new system thats automatically relegates 2 teams whilst the other one participates in promotional plays offs.

Three of the Four Premier league newcomers were relegated. Tsholotsho made a sensational stay after holding off Harare City. Buffaloes were condemned to the less fashionable Division 1 by a defeat to Dynamos.

The teams that got demoted were Buffaloes, Dongo Sawmill, Whawha and Flame Lily. Joining the big boys are Bulawayo City from the Southern region, Border Strikers from Central region and Ngezi Platinum from Northern region. Winners from the Eastern region were yet to be confirmed with Mutare City tipped to sail through.
