Ngezi and FC Platinum title bid falters, How Mine wins again

FC Platinum’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title challenge faltered with a 1-1 home draw with Caps United on Sunday, offering Dynamos and Chicken Inn the chance to go top in another twist to the most unpredictable race for the championship in years.

A draw for FC Platinum means they gain just a point and remain on 3rd position on the log with same number of points as Dynamos and Ngezi Platinum, but Dynamos will only play 24 hours later.

The Platinum miners wasted a slew of late chances after having lead in the first half through Kevin Moyo’s strike in first half.

Buoyed by a lively crowd that also included hometown fellow opponents Shabanie Mine supporters, FC Platinum conceded with just a minute left of play with Godwin Goriyati scoring for Caps United.

Ngezi Platinum also missed an opportunity to top the log standing after being held to a goalless draw by a stubborn Tsholotsho at Baobab stadium.

The teams were having contrasting motives as Ngezi was pushing their title charge while Tsholotsho were fighting tooth and nail to ensure survival against the drop. This alone presented a cagey match as both teams were unyielding at the back.

At Rufaro Stadium Black Rhinos were stopped in their tracks as they succumbed to a 2-1 defeat against a fighting How Mine.

How Mine opened the scoring in the 27th minute through Tinashe Mukanda who finished off a delightful Marvelous Mukumba cross. Black Rhinos did respond immediately just 2 minutes later with Marare connecting a Lot Chiwunga cross.

How Mine found the winner in the second half with Pasca Manhanga connecting a beautiful volley off another Mukumba cross. Rhinos had a chance to level matters but Lot Chiwunga penalty kick was saved by Donovanin goals.
