World Cup Qualifiers Round-up

Spain became the latest team to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup after they beat Albania 3-0 on Friday.

Rodrigo, Isco, and Thiago Alcantara scored first-half goals to give Spain a five-point lead over second placed Italy with one round to go in Group G of European qualifying. Italy’s hopes to qualify as group leaders were blown up after drawing 1-1 against Macedonia in Turin.

Spain will be making its 11th consecutive World Cup appearance while Italy secured a playoff spot.

Defender Giorgio Chiellini gave Italy the lead shortly before halftime but substitute Aleksandar Trajkovski leveled with 13 minutes remaining.

Italy managed to reach 20 points from its nine qualifying matches, seven points in front of third-place Albania.

Meanwhile, in other centers across Europe, Wales managed to to keep their hopes of reaching the World Cup alive after beating Georgia 1-0. They are aiming to finish the group second and secure a play-off spot. Serbia, from the same group blew the chance  to qualify on Friday after they lost 3-2 Austria.

However Serbia still top the group but they are now in a must win situation when they play their final group match against Georgia.

Turkey will not be at the World Cup after they lost 3-0 to Iceland.

Iceland now top the group and if they manage a win in their last game, they will make their debut appearance at biggest football show next year in Russia. On the other side, Croatia were held 1-1 at home which left them with a tricky chance of qualifying. They now need to beat Ukraine to grab the play off spot.
