FC Platinum shoot to the top, Dynamos and Ngezi drop points

FC Platinum moved to the top of the table after they beat Shabanie Mine 2-0 in an exciting Zvishavane Derby played at Mandava on Wednesday afternoon.

It was a great afternoon for coach Norman Mapeza who was celebrating his 100th league game at FC Platinum. They moved to 59 points, one point ahead of second placed Dynamos.

The hosts were the first to attack but the Chinda Boys  started the match well disciplined to avoid an early goal. The pace of the game slowed down when the clock was approaching the quarter hour mark with play now concentrated on the midfield. Things soon turned for worst when FC Platinum started loosing position unnecessarily.

Pure Platinum Play had a chance on the 25th minute but goalkeeper Petros Moyo pulled a brilliant save to deny them a goal. No further threat was made and the teams went to half time tied on deadlock.

Shabanie resumed the second half a better side searching for any early goal. However they soon found themselves trailing on the 64th minute after Rodwell Chinyengetere headed home to break the deadlock.

With fatigue creeping into Shabanie players, FC platinum doubled their lead when Mkhokeli Dube struck a powerful effort to the back of the net ten minutes later.

The match ended with the score line unchanged sending Pure Platinum Play to the top of the table.

Meanwhile, Dynamos had another frustrating afternoon when they draw 1-1 against Tsholotsho in a match played at National Sports Stadium.

They dropped points at a point were it mattered most and they are now second on the log, just a point behind FC Platinum.

The Glamour Boys opend the scoring through Tichaona Chipunza in 16th minute. Tsholotsho respondend swiftly and equalised a minute later courtesy of Lucky Nyathi’s effort.

Dembare tried to get back in the lead but they failed to pass through the visitors’ solid back-line. However it was them who survived a late scare when Tsholotsho scored in the last minute but the goal was ruled offside.

Elsewhere, Ngezi Platinum Stars slumped to third position after they drew 1-1 with Chapungu at Ascot Stadium.

Osborne Mukuradare put the hosts in front on the 34th minute before Xolisani Moyo equalised for Ngezi just over the hour mark. Madamburo could have scored earlier but Walter Mukanga’s freekick went straight to the woodwork.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw.

At other centers, Bulawayo City beat How Mine 2-1 in the Bulawayo Derby played at Luveve Stadium.

First half goals from Newman Siachili and Ishmeal Wadi was enough to hand Amakhosi some relegation relief. They are now four points clear above relegation zone with 35 points.

Though they picked up maximum points, they finished the game with one man short after  Zephania Ngodzo was shown a straight red card in the 69th minute after a dangerous tackle on Godfrey Nguwodzawo.

Relegated Bantu Rovers were party spoilers when they beat ZPC Kariba 2-0 in a match played in Bulawayo. Hwange and Yadah played to a goalless draw.
