The Harare City Council has leased Gwanzura Stadium and Mabvuku Stadium to CAPS United and Scottland FC, respectively.
The two facilities have been handed over on long-term leases, with both clubs set to renovate them to meet Premier Soccer League standards.
In addition, Dzivarasekwa Stadium has been leased to Herentals College FC.
The three stadiums last hosted top-flight games several years ago.
Harare mayor Jacob Mafume confirmed the development during CAPS United’s sponsorship unveiling ceremony on Friday in Harare.
Mafume said:
“We have given Gwanzura Stadium to CAPS United on a long lease and Mabvuku Stadium to Scottland FC. Dzivarasekwa Stadium has been allocated to Herentals College FC. The clubs will develop the grounds.
“Rufaro Stadium, being a bigger facility, will remain open for use by any club. It is important for these sporting facilities to be managed in partnership with clubs so they can be tied to both the fans and the sports economy.”
The arrangement paves the way for CAPS United’s return to Highfield, where the club has deep roots dating back to its early successes at Gwanzura.
Scottland will also benefit from the move, as the team shifts closer to its stronghold in Mabvuku—home to the club’s owner, businessman and Member of Parliament, Scott Sakupwanya.
