Ghana have received an encouraging injury update on first-choice goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi ahead of Tuesday’s crucial FIFA World Cup clash against England.
Ati-Zigi was forced off at half-time during the Black Stars’ 1-0 victory over Panama after suffering an injury following a collision, raising concerns over his availability for the showdown in Boston.
Assessing the goalkeeper’s chances of featuring against England, Ghana’s goalkeeper coach Daniel Gaspar hopes Ati-Zigi will be able to face the Three Lions and the signs are good as initially it was feared his tournament was over.
He explained, as cited by The Mirror: “We’re extremely happy with his progress. It’s day by day. Obviously, this is a medical issue collaborated with head coach Carlos Queiroz, so we’ll take it session by session.
“We’re optimistic, and the decision will be made at the right time. But one thing is for sure, we always stress the team above the individual. Any decision we make is in the best interest of the team.”
Should the situation take an unexpected turn, Ghana will be forced to look to one of their backup options for the decisive Group L encounter.
The Black Stars currently sit level on three points with England, making Tuesday’s clash a pivotal fixture in the race for a place in the Round of 32.
