The South African Football Association (SAFA) has confirmed that Bafana Bafana will be without two key players for their final Group A match against South Korea at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Midfielder Themba Zwane and Teboho Mokoena are both unavailable for selection due to suspension.
Zwane is serving a three-match ban imposed by FIFA’s disciplinary committee following the red card he received during South Africa’s tournament opener against Mexico last week.
His confirmed absence against South Korea also suggests SAFA have decided against appealing the suspension, having previously indicated they were considering challenging FIFA’s decision in an attempt to reduce the length of the ban.
Mokoena, meanwhile, will miss the clash against South Korea after accumulating two yellow cards in the competition, with his second booking coming during Bafana Bafana’s match in Atlanta on Thursday.
There is, however, positive news for coach Hugo Broos, with Sphephelo Sithole available for selection again. Sithole was sent off in the same game against Mexico but has now completed his one-match suspension and is eligible to return to the squad.
South Africa face South Korea in a crucial final Group A encounter as they look to secure progression to the knockout stages of the World Cup.
