CAPS United president Farai Jere has defended the club’s decision to part ways with goalkeeper Wallace Magalane, saying repeated costly mistakes left the club with no option but to move on as they unveiled veteran shot-stopper Washington Arubi.

Speaking after confirming the signing of the 40-year-old former Warriors goalkeeper, Jere launched a scathing assessment of Magalane’s performances.

“Some of the blunders he made are mistakes not even someone in primary school would make. That is not tolerated here at CAPS United,” said Jere.

“You don’t make mistakes every match. He can’t even sit on the bench here; we don’t want to see that boy anywhere near this project. He can go somewhere else.”

Magalane was shown the exit following his costly error in Sunday’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League defeat to Triangle United, with CAPS United swiftly moving to secure the services of Arubi.

The veteran goalkeeper returns to Zimbabwe after an accomplished career in South Africa, where he featured for AmaTuks, SuperSport United, Tshakhuma FC, Marumo Gallants and Stellenbosch FC.

Arubi’s arrival is expected to provide stability between the posts as CAPS United look to improve their fortunes during the remainder of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League campaign.
