Chicago Fire are prepared to listen to offers for South African defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi following his impressive performances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to his agent.
The 20-year-old centre-back has emerged as one of the most sought-after young defenders, attracting interest from clubs in both the English Premier League and Italy’s Serie A.
Speaking to ESPN, Mbokazi’s agent, Basia Michaels, revealed that Chicago Fire are not standing in the player’s way should the right opportunity arise.
“Chicago Fire have come forward and we’ve had conversations. They are willing to sell Mbokazi and they’re not going to hold him back [if a suitable offer arises],” Michaels said.
“They are very open to any conversations that need to be had. They have to realise fair value for their investment.”
According to the report, Chicago Fire FC expect any interested club to meet their valuation after signing Mbokazi from Orlando Pirates earlier this year for around $3 million.
The publication adds that Nottingham Forest are among the clubs monitoring the defender, while teams in Serie A have also expressed interest following his rapid rise on the international stage.
Chicago Fire director of football Gregg Berhalter also confirmed this stance, telling ESPN: “Like all of our players, we would be open to discussing if we saw the move was a significant sporting opportunity for the player, and support the long-term vision of the club.”
