Zimbabwe international Corbin Mthunzi is edging closer to a potential English Premier League breakthrough after featuring for Ipswich Town during the club’s pre-season preparations.
The 19-year-old centre-back has appeared in Ipswich’s last two friendly matches against FC Cartagena and CA Osasuna, continuing to impress as he pushes for a place in the senior squad ahead of the new season.
Reflecting on his latest appearances, Mthunzi admitted he was pleased to gain more valuable minutes on the pitch.
“Yeah, it was good. Obviously, it’s good to get more minutes.
“Playing with the lads and keep building our connection, and (getting) 30 minutes more in the tank.”
He added: “It was really tough as it was hot the whole time, but it was good to get to know the lads and be part of the team.
“It makes me feel good and I’m doing the right things. Obviously just keep on developing, keep getting better.”
Mthunzi has enjoyed a rapid rise since joining Ipswich Town from Brighton in 2025. He impressed during his debut Premier League 2 campaign in the 2025/26 season, earning recognition for his consistent performances.
His progress was further rewarded in March when he received his first senior Warriors cap, and he will now be hoping his encouraging pre-season displays can help him break into Ipswich’s first-team plans for the upcoming Premier League campaign.
