FIFA has dismissed reports claiming that president Gianni Infantino promised Morocco the right to host the 2030 World Cup final in exchange for the country’s support.
The world football governing body described the reports as “false and misleading”, insisting that no decision has been made regarding the venue for the tournament’s showpiece match.
The 2030 World Cup will be jointly hosted by Morocco, Spain and Portugal, with FIFA saying the final host venue will be announced “in due course”.
The FIFA Media account on X stated: “It is false and misleading to claim the FIFA President has made any promise in relation to hosting the FIFA World Cup 2030 Final. A decision will be made by FIFA in due course.”
The clarification comes as Infantino continues to face pressure from UEFA and officials in Spain and Portugal following the controversial proposal to bring private investment into FIFA’s World Cup commercial operations.
