Highlanders assistant coach Mkhokheli Dube has given his verdict on Benjani Mwaruwari Jr after the youngster made his debut for the Bulawayo giants on Sunday.
Benjani Jr came on as a second-half substitute in the Chibuku Super Cup Round of 16 encounter against Chicken Inn at Barbourfields Stadium.
The young forward joined Highlanders during the July transfer window, starting a new chapter after playing entirely in the United Kingdom.
Reflecting on his performance, Dube said the youngster handled the pressure of making his debut in front of Highlanders’ passionate supporters.
“The good thing he is a good listener, I told him to just play simple. As you saw, he’s got amazing speed,” said Dube, who took charge of the game in the absence of head coach Benjani Mwaruwari.
“When you’re coming into a new club with the number of fans that we have, sometimes there’s pressure. But he kept his cool and played really well.
“It’s one step forward for him. I’m hoping to give him more minutes.”
Meanwhile, Highlanders booked their spot in the Chibuku Super Cup quarter-finals after winning the match 3-1 on penalties.
