Sierra Leone could be forced to play its home Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027 qualifier against Zimbabwe outside the country after no local stadium has been confirmed as approved by CAF for the fixture.

The Leone Stars are scheduled to host the Warriors in the AFCON 2027 qualifiers this month, with the two nations drawn in Group E.

However, uncertainty surrounding Sierra Leone’s current stadium situation has raised the possibility of the fixture being played at a neutral venue.

The West African country’s only viable option, Bo City’s Southern Arena, currently has CAF clearance for club inter-club matches only. Its use for senior men’s international group matches has faced limitations linked to infrastructure around the venue.

One of the concerns is the availability of high-tier hotel accommodation, which is an important requirement for CAF’s senior international competitions.

Reports in Liberia have claimed that the Sierra Leone Football Association has approached the Liberian Football Association over the possible use of the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville for the AFCON qualifier against Zimbabwe.

The stadium, located near Liberia’s capital, Monrovia, has previously served as a temporary home venue for the Leone Stars.

The Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex has also appeared on CAF’s approved or pre-approved venue lists, making it a potential option for Warriors game.

However, there has been no official confirmation that Sierra Leone will host Zimbabwe in Liberia.

The possibility would only become relevant if the necessary CAF approvals are secured.

For now, the venue for Sierra Leone’s home qualifier against the Warriors remains subject to confirmation.
