CAPS United and Dynamos renew their fierce rivalry when they meet in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Matchday 28 encounter at Rufaro Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The match, which kicks off at 3pm, comes at a crucial stage of the season, with both sides chasing a strong finish and separated by just three points on the league table.
Dynamos currently sit in fifth place on 46 points from 27 matches, while CAPS United are sixth with 43 points.
With only a handful of games remaining, Saturday’s encounter presents both teams with an opportunity to strengthen their push for a top-four finish while also claiming the bragging rights in the capital.
Form guide
CAPS United head into the derby with mixed fortunes after a dip in form in the last two months.
The Green Machine have two wins and lost twice in their last five league matches in all competitions. While it has been encouraging for them in other competitions after progressing to the quarter-finals of both the Chibuku Super Cup and Munhumutapa Challenge Cup, things have not been the same for them in the league.
Dynamos, meanwhile, will be looking to bounce back after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Chicken Inn in their previous league match.
The loss was only their third of the league campaign and ended a positive run since Aristica Cioaba took over in July.
The Glamour Boys will also be keen to avenge their defeat in the reverse fixture, when CAPS United came from behind to claim a 2-1 victory earlier in the season.
Team news
CAPS United have several players returning to contention ahead of the clash.
Chiragwi confirmed that Tinotenda Meke, Cris Mugalu, Chitoshi Chinga, Kudzai Chigwida and Kundai Benyu have returned to full training and are available for selection.
However, goalkeeper Washington Arubi and Brian Kadamanja remain sidelined.
Influential midfielder Tanaka Shandirwa is also a concern after reportedly suffering a head injury in an off-field altercation, which forced him to miss CAPS United’s Munhumutapa Challenge Cup victory over Manica Diamonds.
At Dynamos, the availability of Nathan Mutasa remains one of the major talking points.
It remains unclear whether Mutasa will be cleared to feature against CAPS United after missing part of the preparations.
Abel Gwatidzo is out of selection due to a yellow suspension.
What the coaches said
CAPS United’s Takesure Chiragwi: “It would be a different ball game again because it is a different day and the approach probably could be different in terms of the magnitude of the game and the number of fans coming to watch. It is a very good game that we are also looking forward to.”
Dynamos’ Aristica Cioaba: “We are fixing our tactics for this game (on Saturday). I don’t have this information of negativity in our camp. We didn’t have big problems in our camp this week.”
