Liverpool are on the verge of appointing Andoni Iraola as their new head coach, with talks at an advanced stage and a deal expected to be finalised soon.

The Premier League giants have moved quickly after parting ways with Arne Slot, and Iraola has emerged as the clear frontrunner following his impressive spell at Bournemouth, where he guided them to European qualification for the first time in their history.

According to reports, Liverpool’s sporting director Richard Hughes — who previously worked with Iraola — is leading negotiations, with the club aiming to complete the appointment before the start of the World Cup on June 11.

While other names such as Sebastian Hoeness and Pierre Sage were considered, Iraola has consistently been identified as Liverpool’s top target due to his high-intensity, pressing style that fits the club’s long-term football philosophy.

Liverpool are now pushing to conclude the appointment quickly so the new manager can begin preparations for the 2026/27 season.
