Mighty Warriors crash out of the Olympic Qualifiers after heavy defeat to Malawi

The Mighty Warriors’ hopes of returning to the Olympics were brutally ended after they suffered a 9-0 aggregate defeat to Malawi in the second round of the qualifiers.

Zimbabwe’s women’s national team suffered a 7-0 defeat at the National Sports Stadium in Harare on Tuesday, having lost the first leg 2-0 in Lilongwe, Malawi, last week.

Temwa Chawinga scored a hat-trick, while her sister Tabitha, Chisomo Banda, Asimenye Simwaka and Sarah Mulimbili added a goal each to complete the emphatic victory.

The result leaves Mighty Warriors coach Stella Gotal winless in her first two matches since taking charge of the team last month.

Meanwhile, Malawi have progressed to the next round, where they will face the winner of the tie between Kenya and Seychelles.
