Chicken Inn not playing in CAF Champions League

Chicken Inn have confirmed that they will not participate in the CAF Champions League despite winning the league title.

It was their first league title since the club’s promotion into the top flight five years ago

The Gamecocks executives deliberated the issue this week and have now announced their decision. Chicken Inn chairman Lifa Ncube pointed out financial resources as the main reason for pulling out of the continental competition.

Ncube told the Herald, ‘We have decided as a club not to take part in the African Safari. The most important consideration in coming to that decision was the finances involved.

FC Platinum who could finish in second spot have already indicated they are not interested either in participating in the competition even if they are eligible as the runner up.

Meanwhile Chicken Inn will be handed the trophy as well as the winner’s medals after their game against Flame Lilly at Lafarge Stadium. The match and the trophy presentation will be broadcast on Supersport.

Both Edmore Chirambadare and Danny Phiri will miss the tie as the club did not want to jeopardise their chances of being selected for the Soccer Stars of the Year. Both players are sitting on five yellow cards and will not be considered if they got another one.
