The Premier League has been asked to hold elections to appoint a new Chairman to replace Twine Phiri.
This was said by ZIFA President Philip Chiyangwa who held his first board meeting today. Chiyangwa said that the changes at CAPS United meant Phiri was no longer eligible to be PSL chairman.
Current ZIFA statues state that only a chairman or the president of the club of a premier league side can be chairman of the Premier Soccer League
Twine Phiri sold the majority stake of CAPS United to business partner Farai Jere and changes at the club have seen Phiri relegated to the vice Chairman post with Lewis Uriri the Chairman now.
The request by ZIFA signals the end of Phiri’s reign. Last year he was re-elected into office after beating Kenny Mubaiwa in the elections.
Meanwhile other issues discussed at the board meeting included resolving to hold a Forensic audit to be undertaken by KPMG.
Chiyangwa hinted that ZIFA could consider selling some of their properties to clear debts. In addition to Premier League chairmanship ,others elections that will take place will be Women’s league, Eastern region, Central region and Masvingo province to fill vacant positions.
Despite only being in office for a few days Chiyangwa is set to go on leave to attend to some urgent business with Omega Sibanda in charge of the association till the 31 of December.
