Chicken Inn beat Highlanders to lift Independence Cup

Chicken Inn have clinched their first Independence Cup after beating Highlanders 2-1 at the National Sports Stadium this afternoon.

Highlanders started well with King Nadolo and Knox Mutizwa getting good chances to open the scoring but blowing them.

In the 19th minute Bruce Kangwa scored the opener when he went on a break before beating Pride Zendera in goal for Chicken Inn with his shot.

However the lead did not last too long when Obadiah Tarumbwa headed in the equaliser for Chicken Inn after Aerial Sibanda was hesitant to clear the ball.

Kangwa then hit the wood work to almost restore the Highlanders lead. Chicken Inn finished the half well with Katsvairo’s speed and raids causing problems.

Highlanders had another good chance at the start of the second half when Knox Mutizwa did well to find Prince Dube but he failed to hit the target.

With action swinging from both ends the game opened up even more. On the 66th minute Katsvairo scored the Gamecocks second and the winner with a beautiful shot that beat Aerial Sibanda.

The win sees Joey Antipas’ team walk away with $20 000 while Highlanders get $15 000 . At White City Stadium Dynamos woes continued when they were handed a 2-0 defeat by FC Platinum. Obrey Chirwa and Wellington Kamudyariwa scored in the first half to heap more pressure of Paulo Silva.
