Cosafa Cup preview: Zimbabwe v Swaziland

Zimbabwe will begin their 2016 Cosafa Cup campaign with a tricky tie against Swaziland at the Sam Nujoma Stadium this afternoon.

The match kick’s off at 15:00Hrs

Zimbabwe are joint record winners having clinched the regional title four times the same as rivals Zambia.

However the Warriors will be out to put on a better performance this year after being knocked out early in the 2015 edition.

Callisto Pasuwa has already emphasised the need for a good start against a Swazi side that is composed of mostly locally based players and has already been together for most of the AFCON qualifiers.

Madagascar and Seychelles are the other teams in Group A.

The Warriors squad has locally based players with Jomos Cosmos striker Charlton Mashumba the only the only foreign based player.

However Zimbabwe will be looking at experienced players such as captain Danny Phiri, Hardlife Zvirekwi ,Bruce Kangwa and Ronald Pfumbidzai to lead the side.

With the Warriors qualifying for the AFCON tournament NFAZ president Philip Chiyangwa urged the team this week to continue with the momentum the national squad has at the moment.

Zimbabwe will likely have a psychological edge over Swaziland who they thumped 4-0 in the AFCON qualifiers on their way to qualification.

To their credit Swaziland have proved to be more than capable of upsets beating Guinea 1-0 last week to give themselves a chance of AFCON qualification as one of the best placed runners up from the AFCON groups.
