Highlanders registered their first league win over ZPC Kariba this afternoon in a Castle Lager Premiership match played at Barbourfields Stadium this afternoon.
Highlanders started well with Knox Mutizwa forcing an early save from Mawaya. Highlanders continued to attack as the half progressed but ZPC Kariba were defiant in defence.
However on the 39th minute Highlanders struck the opener through youngster Adrian Silla. Highlanders initially had the ball saved on the line before it fell to Silla who struck it well with his left foot.
ZPC Kariba pressed for an equaliser in the second half with Limited Chikafa coming close only to be denied by Njabulo Nyoni as Highlanders held onto to clinch another win. The victory sees Highlanders stretch their unbeaten run to 9 games and tighten their grip on top spot.
At the National Sports Stadium CAPS United clinched another three points when they beat Bulawayo City 2-0. Simba Nhiva and Leonard Tsipa scored for the Green Machine but Bulawayo City were furious after being denied what seemed to be a genuine goal by the linesman who flagged a Nyasha Mukumbi effort for offside.
Nhivi opened the scoring in the sixth minute before veteran striker Leonard Tsipa headed in at the near post just before halftime with Nhivi turning provider.
Bulawayo City eventually pulled one back through Innocent Kutsanzira but the damage had been done as CAPS United maintained the pressure on Highlanders who they trail by two points.
At the Colliery Stadium Mutare City registered their third win over the season when they beat Hwange 1-0.Chastern Ngondonga scored the all important goal that moves Mutare City into 14th place on the table.
