PSL makes changes to Soccer Stars of the Year selection criteria

The Premier Soccer League has announced some changes to the regulations for the Soccer Star of the Year selection.

The PSL awards are held towards the end of the each league season with 11 Soccer Stars of the Year chosen. The Soccer Star of the Year is chosen from among the 11 together with two runners up.

The stars are chosen by member of the media, club captains and coaches. The awards have attracted criticism in the past for alleged bias with accusations that some players have been chosen based on their region or club rather than performance during the season.

Starting this year selectors votes will be made public like other international awards like the FIFA Ballon D’or .

There has also been an increase in the number of yellow and red cards permitted before a player becomes ineligible for selection for awarded

Any player that accumulates a total of ten (10) or more disciplinary points in Castle Lager Premier Soccer League official matches within a single season will be ineligible for selection:

-A coach that is expelled from the technical area five (5) or more times Castle Lager Premier Soccer League official matches within a single season will be ineligible for selection.

-An expulsion (red card) in an official Castle Lager PSL match shall be equal to two (2) disciplinary points.

-A single yellow card accumulated in each official Castle Lager PSL match shall be equal to a one (1) disciplinary point.

In addition Any player or coach who is convicted by the Zimbabwe Football Association or relevant regulatory body of any doping or match fixing offence shall be in-eligible for selection.
