Warriors battling to get friendly on next FIFA break

The Warriors are set to have an international friendly with Egypt but only in January according to the ZIFA ahead of the African Cup of Nations in Gabon

Zimbabwe will be making their third appearance at AFCON and have been drawn in a tough group that includes Algeria, Senegal and Tunisia.

Reacting to the draw Callisto Pasuwa had emphasised the need to adequate preparations and was keen for friendlies against North African opposition in particular Egypt and Morocco.

Speaking to Newsday ZIFA spokesperson Xolisani Gwesela said a friendly against Egypt was on the cards.

“Egypt have said they want to play us in early January before the tournament. We are still in discussions with them regarding the venue and the actual date of the match. But they want the match to be played in Egypt.

However getting a friendly match on the next FIFA window appears to be in doubt with nations already tied up.

“Most teams are playing in the World Cup qualifiers, so it is difficult to secure a friendly match during the November international break added Gwesela.
