The Mighty Warriors were given plenty to think about ahead of the African Women’s Cup of Nation’s (AWCON) tournament when they were handed a 3-0 defeat at the National Sports Stadium this afternoon.
The Mighty Warriors have barely trained for a week with ZIFA failing to provide adequate preprations and it showed as a sharper Banyana Banyana squad got the better of the home side.
Thembi Kgatlana put South Africa ahead in the 16th minute. Zimbabwe remained in the game but lacked a threat upfront for most of the first half.
Playing conditions worsened at the start of the second half after a down pour of rain but the match continued.
In the 52nd minute Kgatlana made it two after Zimbabwe had conceded a corner. Smeda Leandra then wrapped up the win for South Africa with the third.
Zimbabwe did get chances to reduce deficit but were kept out by South Africa.
With only days to go Shadreck Mlauzi’s team have a lot to think and do in a very short period of time if they are to do well in Cameroon. Zimbabwe will face South Africa,Egypt and hosts Cameroon.
