Algerian international and Leicester forward Riyad Mahrez had won the BBC African Player of the Year.

Mahrez beat Piere Aubameyang, Yaya Toure, Andrew Ayew and Sadio Mane for the award.

Speaking after the win Mahrez told the BBC, “It means a lot, obviously I’m African, it’s big for an African player and I’m very pleased to win it.

“It’s always good to receive an award and as an African player it’s a huge honor. Mahrez dedicated the award to Algerian fans.

“Also I want to thank the Algeria fans and dedicate this to them as well and for my family. “I just have to carry on and keep going with my football and see what I can do.
