Preview: Warriors target convincing victory over Seychelles

The Zimbabwe national team will take on the Seychelles this afternoon in the final Group B encounter at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace.

The match kicks off at 17:00hrs

Zimbabwe played out a goalless draw with Madagascar on Wednesday in a game that was marred by questionable officiating from Botswana referee Joshua.

The Warriors though were less superior than they had been against Mozambique where they won 4-0 with Ovidy Karuru grabbing a brace.

Zimbabwe are favourites to progress and have a better goal difference than Madagascar who are on four points as well.

Madagascar have the tougher task on paper when they take on Mozambique at the same time.

However the Warriors will need to rediscover their goal scoring form against the weakest team in the Group. Seychelles are already eliminated after suffering two defeats.

Karuru is likely to be a key figure once again for the Warriors but head coach Sunday Chidzambwa has decisions to make upfront.

Blessing Majarira struggled when handed a starting place against Madagascar while Yadah striker Leeroy Mavunga’s absence could open up a chance for Highlanders forward Prince Dube who has not featured in the tournament so far.

Meanwhile Seychelles head coach  Rodney Choisy wants his team to play like there are still in contention.

“We will go hard to try and get a result.  “We want to play as if we are still in the running. “Because we are an island we do not get many chances to organise friendlies and this Cosafa Castle Cup has been a great opportunity for us to play competitive international games said Choisy.

The winner of the Group will meet Swaziland in the quarterfinals.
