Dynamos got off to a false start after they lost 1-0 to Chicken Inn in a match played at Barboaurfields Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Glamour Boys were hoping to build up from the ZNA Charity Shield triumph, but things didn’t go to plan as Obadiah Tarumbwa’s second half solitary strike separated the two sides.
The first chance of the game came as early as in the second minute when Cleopas Kapupurika’s effort went over the bar. The Gamecocks responded well, earning two freekicks in their opponents’ half.
Innocent Muchanea had a glorious opportunity to sent the home team ahead towards the half-hour mark, but his header was off target.
No goals were scored until in the 51st minute when Tarumbwa struck home.
Dynamos soon retained more position with hope to get back into the game, but the game ended in favour of Chicken Inn.
Across the city, Ishmael Wadi scored the first goal of the 2018 season when he sent his Bulawayo City in the lead on the 19th minute. He went on target again in the 80th minute to seal a 2-0 victory over Chapungu.
City’s Sipho Ndlovu was red carded in the 66th minute for a second bookable offence.
Elsewhere, Ngezi Platinum beat newcomers Herentals 2-0 at Baobab Stadium.
Walter Mukanga scored the opening goal in the 66th minute before Keith Murera headed home with three minutes to play.
45-year-old Innocent “IB9” Benza was in the first XI of Herentals on Saturday.
At Mandava, Nichrut mark their entrance into the top flight league with a narrow 1-0 win over Mutare City.
Spencer Masunda’s 21st-minute strike handed the debutants their first victory of the season.
The match between Yadah FC and Bulawayo Chiefs ended in a 2-2.
Moses Majika and Perfect Chikwende netted for Chiefs before Ralph Matema and Byron Madzorere levelled terms for the home team.
ZPC Kariba didn’t show up at National Sports Stadium in a tie against reigning champions FC Platinum.
The Kariba-based side refused to travel to Harare, insisting that they should play home games at their Nyamhunga Stadium.
