Rutendo Makore was the hero as her Spanish Feminina Side Sporting Huelva secured a spirited 1-1 draw against the strong Barcelona side.
The second placed Barça had to sweat to secure a 1-1 draw on their visit to Huelva following a tough game in which the home side defended well and took the lead through Makore.
The game started with Sporting pressing high up the pitch and the Catalans were unable to keep possession.
There was not too much to choose between the two sides and there was very little space to play in during a tight opening half. The game lacked rhythm due to the number of fouls and Sporting looked strong in defence.
In the opening minutes of the second half, the dangerous Makore made the most of a great pass into space to finish past Paños (1-0, min. 48).
Barcelona didn’t give up and they went looking for the equaliser.
The equaliser did come in the 60th minute, Toni Druggan who was trying throughout the match was not so forgiving and she turned on the edge of the box and placed the ball into the top corner of Serrat’s goal to level the score.
Barça dominated from then on but were unable to score the winner leaving them one point behind the league leaders.
Makore’s goal received praise as the striker who has impressed during her loan spell looks certain to secure her permanent deal. She has now scored 3 times since her return from injury including a goal against log leaders Atletico Madrid.
