Chigova saves Warriors again

George Chigova was again the saviour as he helped Zimbabwe book their place in the final of the 2018 COSAFA Cup on Wednesday evening.

The giant goalkeeper saved two kicks in the penalty shoot-outs, repeating a feat he achieved in the quarter-finals.

The Warriors will now face Zambia whom they beat in the same round last year.

The first half saw few meaningful chances created. Brian Amidu received the best opportunity before the break but failed to reach the target with the keeper to beat.

The introduction of Talent Chawapiwa early in the second half, however, brought in some life on the right wing as the forward delivered well-made crosses including the one which was headed wide by Tinotenda Kadewere in the 70th minute.

Kadewere also failed to reach a beautiful through pass from Khama Billiat eight minutes later which had a potential to bring a change.

There was a nervous moment during the half when Chigova failed to clear the ball outside the box but recovered on the second effort.

The game went to the penalties and Billiat, Jameson Mukombwe and Alec Mudimu converted their kicks. Chigova saved Lesotho’s first two kicks before he was beaten on the third penalty.

The Crocodiles’ fourth kick was ruled out by the referee to give the Warriors 3-1 penalty shoot-out victory.
