We value points more than goals: Mapeza

Norman Mapeza says he values points more than goals after FC Platinum posted one of the biggest victories in recent years, thrashing Mutare City 6-0 at Mandava Stadium on Saturday.

The goal harvest, however, did little to excite Mapeza who is keeping his focus fixed on the main target of retaining the league title.

“What is most important for us are the three points. Of course, the goals are important at the end of the season if the title is to be won on goal difference but simply getting a win is very important,” said Mapeza.

“I am happy that the players implemented what we have been practising at training. This is my biggest victory as a coach in the league after scoring six goals against Caps United in the ZNA Charity Shield. It’s also good though that we are beginning to score and in the last two games, we have managed nine goals.”

A hat-trick from Rodwell Chinyengere, a brace from Edwin Madhananga and Ali Sadiki’s goal saw FC Platinum extend their lead at the top to seven points ahead of Ngezi Platinum Stars who are away to Highlanders at Babourfields Stadium this afternoon.
