Chidzambwa happy after DRC draw

Warriors coach Sunday Chidzambwa was happy with the performance of his charges in a 1-1 draw against DRC on Tuesday but lamented the suspensions and injuries which affected the squad ahead of the 2019 Afcon Qualifiers, Group G encounter.

Chidzambwa missed captain Knowledge Musona and centre-back Alec Mudimu through suspensions while he was forced to make a last minute change to the first XI after defensive midfielder Danny Phiri got injured during warm up.

Goalkeeper George Chigova only played for 30 minutes before he was subbed off following a knock suffered early in the game.

“We had a problem with injuries and suspensions, but these things happen in football,” the coach said.

“We all know that DRC is not a small team, but a big one. We did well to come out with three points in Kinshasa because it doesn’t usually happen to get a victory there. Today (Tuesday) they had a good game plan, but we had ours too, so I can say, the plans drew.”

Khama Billiat scored for the hosts in the first minute while an own goal by Teenage Hadebe on minute 24 gave the Congolese an equaliser.

The Warriors are now 8 points on top while DRC has five.
