Zim quartet set for Soweto Derby debut

Four Zimbabwean players are set to make their debut appearance in the Soweto Derby this afternoon.

Kaizer Chiefs duo of Khama Billiat and Teenage Hadebe and the Orlando Pirates pair of Marshall Munetsi and Kudakwashe Mahachi are all expected to feature in the encounter for the first time.

Billiat who joined Amakhosi in the pre-season has been a doubt in the build-up to the clash but hinted on Thursday that he is fit to play today. The 28-year-old winger missed last weekend’s action with a back injury sustained during the international break.

Should he be declared fit, Khama is expected to start in the first XI along with Hadabe who is yet to play a league game this season.

Hadebe has been suffering from a nagging ankle injury which also ruled him out of the squad for the March encounter. The defender also missed the first leg played in 2017 with the same injury.

On the other side, midfielder Munetsi is yet to feature in the tie, having missed the previous derbies due to loan spells and failing to break into the first team. He might miss out again today considering the fact that he has spent more minutes on the bench.

The same also applies to his teammate Mahachi who hasn’t seen much game time since joining Pirates from Golden Arrows in the pre-season. The 25-year-old has only made three league appearances so far.

Meanwhile, Amakhosi midfielder Willard Katsande is available for selection and is likely to retain his central role in the midfield this afternoon.

The game kicks off at 3:30 pm.
