Bonne tops scoring chart in England

Macauley Bonne has become the top goal scorer in England’s National League after hitting the target in Letron Orient’s 2-0 victory over Wrexham on Saturday.

The 23-year-old has now netted sixteen goals, two of which were from the spot in 21 appearances this season. He opened the scoring in the 86th-minute before James Brophy rounded up the victory five minutes later as the Os returned to the top of the table.

Bonne’s form has been impressive since arriving at the London-based side in August 2017 from Colchester. He scored 22 league goals in his debut season to became the youngest player ever in the club’s history to reach that mark in a single campaign.

Top clubs in Championship and the Scotish Premiership were reportedly interested in the player, but he extended his contract with another year. These clubs include Dundee, Shrewsbury, Portsmouth and Burton Albion.
