FC Platinum lose to Esperence in final Group B game

FC Platinum rounded up their 2018/19 CAF Champions League campaign with a 2-1 loss to Esperance in the final Group B match played at Barbourfields Stadium on Saturday.

The Zimbabwe champions finish the stage at the bottom of the pool with two points while the Tunisians maintained their perfect run, ending on fourteen points.

The visitors took an early lead in the 8th minute through Mohamed Meskini who struck home a long-range free-kick from about 35-yards out. The set piece was low and powerful and left goalkeeper Petros Mhari with no chance.

Pure Platinum Play started to dominate the pace in the following moments with the hope of getting an equaliser. They came close on goal several times including a 21st-minute header from Rahman Kutsanzira which was superbly saved by the keeper.

Some of their efforts which followed up went off target, with Thomas Chideu getting the most glorious one when he found himself unmarked in the box but wasted it by striking the ball wide on the stroke of half-time.

Nonetheless, FC Platinum kept on knocking on the door and found the breakthrough, though controversially, on minute 63 when Ali Sidiki headed in the ball which was already in the hands of the keeper.

Esperance responded twenty minutes later with another fantastic long-range strike from Adem Rjaeibi who had come on three minutes earlier.

The match ended in favour of the visiting team with FC Platinum failing to get a win in the group stage.
