Mutasa warns Warriors opponents at Afcon

Warriors assistant coach Lloyd Mutasa believes Zimbabwe is going to be the surprise package of the tournament at this year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Mutasa who was part of a relatively average Dynamos side that reached the African champions league final under Sunday Chidzambwa in 1998, feels the veteran coach has the knack of defying the odds.

“Right now people are laughing at me when I say that we can reach the final. I have confidence in our team, look at Zambia they won the title without big name players compared to their opponents. So it’s a lesson learnt, we can do the same,” said Mutasa.

“I also have a lot of confidence in our mentor Sunday Chidzambwa. He is the first coach to take us to the Africa Cup of Nations and now he knows the terrain. This time around, we are going to go past the group stages. I am very much confident about that.”

The Warriors squad for the Africa Cup of Nations and Cosafa cup was announced on Tuesday.

Some of the notable faces who bounced back into the team are Nyasha Mushekwi, Thabani Kamusoko, Lawrence Mhlanga while Baroka goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze was finally rewarded for his form this season.
