Sports minister Kirsty Coventry has blasted the Zimbabwe Football Association for not taking women’s sport seriously, after they were summoned to explain the Mighty Warriors’ Sunday debacle but responded by asking for money to fund the men’s team to Somalia tomorrow.
The Mighty Warriors boycotted their Olympic qualifier return leg against Zambia over upaid allowances and governement then summoned the country’s football governing body, only to get a shocking responce.
Coventry took to microblogging site Twitter to lambast the association.
1/3 I asked the ZIFA Chair for a meeting to discuss the women’s qualifying debacle on Sunday he proceeded to ask Gvt for money for the Men’s Team to travel tomorrow! I have had enough of Womens sport not being taken seriously in Zimbabwe. #EqualityInSport #WomenInSport
