Chicken Inn ends CAPS United unbeaten run as Dynamos and Highlanders settle for draws

CAPS United’s six-match undefeated run came to an end on Wednesday after losing 1-0 to Chicken Inn in a Match-day 27 encounter played at Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo.

The tie had its controversial moment when the Gamecocks got a late penalty after goalkeeper Tonderai Mateyaunga was adjudged to have fouled Obriel Chirinda inside the box.

There was a lengthy stoppage as CAPS players refused to continue playing in protest over the penalty, but they later returned to the pitch and allowed Passmore Bernad to take the set-piece.

The defender made no mistake and gave the home team a late winner which put them within four points behind the Harare giants who are leading on the log.

Earlier in the game, CAPS winger Phineas Bamusi could have broken the deadlock on the half-hour, but his shot hit the woodwork.

Meanwhile, the defeat is Makepekepe’s second since Darlington Dodo took over in August.

There was also another stoppage at Rufaro as Dynamos fans threw missiles onto the pitch in protest over a decision by the referee Brighton Chimene.

The chaos arose after the centre-man booked Evans Katema for simulation despite seemingly impeded by FC Platinum keeper Petros Mhari.

The Glamour Boys had been denied a goal early in the second half after Jarrison Selemani hit the back of the net from an indirect free-kick. However, the ball touched no player, and it was given as a goal-kick to FC Platinum.

On the other end, the visitors created a few meaningful chances with Perfect Chikwende, Never Tigere, Gifte Mbweti all getting good opportunities along the way but couldn’t convert them.

The match ended in a goalless draw.

At Nyamhunga Stadium, ten-man Highlanders scored their first goal at the venue since 2014 in a 1-1 draw against ZPC Kariba.

Bosso went behind on the 19th minute after Samuel Makawa made a brilliant run before slotting home past advancing Ariel Sibanda.

The visitors suffered another blow before the break when Prince Dube got a straight red card for stamping on the keeper.

The second half saw them regrouping and managed to take the game to Kariba with Peter Muduhwa equalising in the 76th minute.

Elsewhere, Donald Teguru scored the solitary goal as Ngezi Platinum edged out Bulawayo Chiefs.

Results:
Dynamos 0-0 FC Platinum
ZPC Kariba 1-1 Highlanders
