It’s that time of the season when the City of Harare is divided into two parts, blue and green, as CAPS United and Dynamos face off.

Dubbed the ‘Harare Derby,’ Sunday’s fixture, which is scheduled to be played at Rufaro Stadium, comes at a time when both sides are fighting for relegation survival.

For the first time in the 49-year-old history of the derby, both teams will be led by Zambian coaches on the day: Ian Bakala for CAPS United and Kelvin Kaindu for Dynamos.

For Bakala, the Harare Derby is something he was used to during his playing days at CAPS United, and he even has a feel for it as a coach during the first round of the season when the two sides played to a stalemate at Rufaro in May.

CAPS United walks into the derby struggling with form and consistency under Bakala, who has been in charge for 18 games. In the process, he has registered 6 wins, 6 draws, and 6 defeats.

His opposite number, Kelvin Kaindu, will be marking his debut in this prestigious fixture, which comes with pressure from both ends.

Kaindu is currently enjoying a good run at Dembare since his appointment in July, as the team has remained unbeaten.

The soft spoken gaffer has managed 13 points out of a possible 15 in the five league games that he has been in charge.

On top of that  Kaindu has also guided Dembare to the semi-finals of the Chibuku Super Cup, keeping the club’s hope of retaining the trophy alive.

“We have played each other before back home (Zambia), but this will be our first time playing each other here.

“I just hope the best team on the day wins, but generally, I respect him (Bakala) as my countryman,” said Kaindu ahead of the derby.

Dynamos is sitting on position 16 on the log with 29 points , three behind CAPS United which 13th on log with 32 points.
