Warriors coach Michael Nees has said the goalless draw against South Africa was proof that football can be entertaining even without goals.
Zimbabwe played Bafana Bafana in a World Cup Qualifiers Group C encounter in front of a sold-out crowd at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Friday tonight.
Speaking after the match , Nees praised his charges for their fighting spirit and described the match as a fair and competitive contest.
“The game showed that football can also be entertaining when no goals are scored. If every game would be like that, I think everybody would always go home with a feeling of satisfaction for the money spent,” he said.
“It was a fight on a high level, with drama, yellow and red cards, some even questionable. But it was a very fair match, I didn’t see a single bad tackle with bad intention,” Nees said.
The result leaves Benin, South Africa and Nigeria still chasing for a ticket to the 2026 World Cup. Benin lead Group C with 17 points while South Africa are in second place with 15 points, Nigeria are in 3rd place with 14 points.
