Maningi Queens dismissed from Zimbabwe Women’s Premier League

Maningi Queens have been formally dismissed from the Zimbabwe Women’s Premier League. The club initially withdrew and then wanted readmission

Part of a statement from the club read:

We would want to announce that MYSA has now been formally dismissed from the ZWPSL following our request to rejoin the league, despite finding a big Sponsor willing to help us now and in the future Seasons.

It is a very sad day for Women football as the livelihoods of many young players, support personnel, and technical team are at immediate risk. Moreover, this situation could seriously derail the momentum of Women football development in the country at a time when there is a national push towards grassroots football, girl child mass participation and rebuilding Zimbabwean football.

It is also very worrying how constitutional violations have become a disturbing habit among some individuals entrusted with leadership positions in Women football across the country. This continues to highlight a growing culture in which personal interests and unilateral decision-making overshadow the principles of accountability, transparency, and fairness.

Initially the club had withdrawn from the league citing alleged fraud involving FIFA and CAF women’s football grants.

In addition the club highlighted lack of legal action on player development and training compensation by bigger teams that poach their players, as well as unaffordable referees’ fees in a league with no sponsorship.

After withdrawing from the league the club sought to be readmitted after a sponsorship pledge from Walter Magaya who said he would try and help the team stay afloat for the remainder of the season.

Their admission however was turned down by the Zimbabwe Women’s Premier League congress which cited a lack of readmission process in the current women’s football constitution

Maningi Queens were in the relegation zone with 15 points from 20 games and had missed the last few 4 rounds of action.
