The newly appointed sports and recreation Minister Makhosini Hlongwane has been challenged to stop the continuous blundering of the ZIFA administration in order to save the game in the country.
Hlongwane took over from fired Andrew Langa. Langa was heavily criticised by football fans during his tenure over his light handling of ZIFA especially the expulsion of the Warriors from the World Cup qualifiers.
Speaking to the national Broadcaster ZBC news, veteran administrator Chris Sambo says Hlongwane must address the problems at Zifa with urgency.
“I think the Minister needs to act as a matter of urgency on the ZIFA issue. We have said time and again under Section 28 of the SRC Act, the Minister has the power to dissolve ZIFA which in my view has been highly inefficient. The new Minister should stop the rot at ZIFA,” said Sambo.
However a drastic step of dissolving the ZIFA Admin may not go down well with FIFA because government intervention gets a FIFA ban from football.
ZIFA is currently sucked in a mis-use of funds saga after the AFCON qualifier game featuring the Warriors and Guinea. A government audit is already underway to determine if ever there was any misappropriation of funds.
