Zim missing as World Cup qualifiers begin

African countries began 2018 World Cup qualifiers yesterday with a number of matches played around the continent in the first round.

Kenya registered the biggest win with a 5-2 victory over Mauritius while Tanzania beat Malawi 2-0.

The match between South Sudan and Mauritania was abandoned due to a wet pitch after only ten minutes but with the score already at 1-1.

First round winners will join other nations who received a bye into the second round.

Zimbabwe are the only African country not participating in the qualifiers after receiving a ban from FIFA for failing to pay money owed to former head coach Valinhos.

Wednesday World Cup qualifiers results:

Comoros 0-0 Lesotho

Seychelles 0-1 Burundi

Tanzania 2-0 Malawi

Mauritius 2-5 Kenya

South Sudan vs Mauritania (abandoned)
