Arsenal had a number of anxious moments but managed to work their way past a Burnley side that featured Tendayi Darikwa in the Fourth round of the FA Cup.
The defending champions scored through Calum Chambers and Alexis Sanchez.
Arsenal dominated the early exchanges and went in front in the 19th minute through Chambers who directed his shot into the right side of the box after being set up by Alexis Sanchez.
Burnley to their credit refused to sit back and equalised 11 minutes later when TendayI Darikwa flighted a good ball that was met by Vokes who headed in to beat David Ospina in goal for Arsenal.
Two minute later Burnley almost went ahead with Ospina almost caught out.
Halftime came with the game evenly poised at 1-1.
In the 53rd minute Alexis Sanchez reminded Arsenal fans what they had missing when smashed the ball in to score the second after good build play.
Despite the lead Arsenal continued to look vulnerable as Burnley continued to press. However the Gunners held onto to proceed to the next round of the competition.
