2019 Afcon Draw: Everything you need to know

The draw for the 2019 Afcon will be held this evening in Cairo, Egypt.

The Warriors are among the twenty-four teams that qualified for the tournament scheduled start from 21 June to 19 July in the north African country. Coach Sunday Chidzambwa, team manager Wellington Mpandare and Zifa board member Chamu Chiwanza are representing the country at the draw.

Zifa President Felton Kamambo is also in Egypt and will attend the event at his capacity as a FA boss.

Draw Procedure

The seeding of the qualified teams was decided based on the latest FIFA World rankings (released 4 April 2019).

Egypt is in Pot 1 because of their status as hosts of the competition while Cameroon is also in the same pot by virtue of being the defending champions. Zimbabwe is in Pot 4 along with fellow COSAFA teams Namibia and Angola.

The teams will be drawn into six groups of four teams.

Pot 1: Egypt, Cameroon, Senegal, Tunisia, Nigeria, Morocco.

Pot 2: DRC, Ghana, Mali, Cote D’Ivoire, Guinea, Algeria.

Pot 3: South Africa, Uganda, Benin, Mauritania, Madagascar, Kenya.

Pot 4: Zimbabwe, Namibia, Guinea-Bissau, Angola, Burundi, Tanzania.

TV Info and Kick-off time

The draw will kick off at 8 pm Zimbabwean time. The event will be covered live on Supersport 7A.

Format of the Africa Cup of Nations

The teams in each group will play in a single round-robin format. The top two sides in each group along with the best four third-placed teams will advance to the knockout phase, the round of 16.

Group stage games kick off on June 21, and the final will take place on July 19.
