Kaizer Chiefs have explained why Khama Billiat started from the bench in the 1-0 loss to Polokwane City on Saturday.

There has been some controversy surrounding his involvement in the Warriors game on Tuesday and coach Ernst Middendorp was unhappy with him after playing the entire 90 minutes.

The gaffer believed the player needed to play a few minutes since he had only recovered from an injury a few days before.

After he returned from the international break on Thursday, Billiat was expected to start in the game on Saturday but, according to a statement on club’s website, the forward was on the bench because he had missed some days in preparations for the tie.

A statement on the club’s official website before the game read: “Billiat missed three days of training due to being called up for national duty by Zimbabwe for Tuesday’s match against Somalia in which he scored his country’s all-important goal. Billiat will start on the bench this evening (yesterday.”
